Raising European recognition of obesity as a chronic disease

The European Association for the Study of Obesity (EASO) engaged Cambre to drive formal recognition of obesity as a chronic disease requiring active management (treatment).

Our approach

Cambre supports EASO with the development of an annual European Obesity Day (EOD) to provide a focal point for European-wide activities and engagement of stakeholder groups such as national and EU policymakers, healthcare professionals, patients, general public and media.

We develop a toolkit for use by national obesity associations and an informal alliance of associated disease groups, available on a central portal. We support with core EU activities and the basis for public and social media activities which can be staged regionally.

The result

Since it was first held in 2010, EOD has been driving European interest and awareness of obesity. It is now EASO’s main campaigning platform and includes involvement of the WHO, OECD, the European Commission, Members of the European Parliament, and national and regional health authorities. EU and national EOD activities each year result in media coverage that reaches more than 350 million people.

EOD won Best Lobbying Campaign of the Year in the European Association Awards in 2016 and the EOD Policy Conference held in Brussels in 2017 was runner-up for the Best Association Conference Award 2018.
